On January 17, 2023, Micronel Celebrates Its 55th Anniversary

Peter Meier Senior, who is personally responsible for this anniversary, was a talented inventor as well as a successful entrepreneur. He was 32 years young when he won a development competition in 1968 with his invention “crash helmet with visor”. With the prize money, the electrical engineer cofinanced the founding of the company in Tagelswangen. And there, in a garage in Tagelswangen, the history of Micronel began.

World’s first miniature axial fan V240

Just one year after the company was founded, Micronel impressed the international market with the launch of the world’s first miniature axial fan V240. This was used for cooling power electronics. In the same year, Peter Meier Senior hired his first employee ever, Walter Hepp, who incidentally retired from Micronel 43 years later.

Removal from the garage

Peter Meier had the right instinct and successfully led the company through its first 15 years. The small diffuser relays and mini ventilators manufactured in Tagelswangen were in demand all over the world. And so the small company and its team continued to grow. Newly acquired premises in the town were moved into, as the garage was threatening to burst at the seams.

Invention of the world’s smallest flat fan

With the invention of the world’s smallest and first flat fan, the founder landed 1982 another coup that underpinned his innovative strength once again. The flat fan was 57x57mm and just 14 millimeters thin and was used in a device that was only six by six centimeters in size.

Fans and blowers in focus

Micronel grew into a medium-sized manufacturing company and moved to its current location at Zürcherstrasse 51 in the mid-1980’s. In quick succession, new innovations were created, such as fans for respiratory protection with blower filter units (PAPR – Powered Air Purifying Respirator) or numerous customer-specific solutions.

Revolution in the medical industry

Blowers were first used in medical ventilation in 2004. This was the foundation laid by Peter Meier Junior for the paradigm shift that began. This pioneering achievement came about in an intensive customer relationship with the U51 series. That was the beginning of a sustainable success story and market leadership, especially since today medical ventilation is the company’s sales driver.

Micronel today

For meanwhile 20 years, Peter Meier Junior, named after his father, has been running the company together with around 100 employees, three subsidiaries in the USA, UK and Germany, and more than a dozen sales partners worldwide. Micronel is one of the market leaders in terms of technology and has set new standards in many areas – all over the world.

The range of applications extends from medical ventilation (such as sleep apnea, intensive care ventilation or breathable full-body suits) to vacuum solutions in industry. The drying of beverage bottles and dental suction or various ventilation applications are also part of daily business. The use of Micronel blowers and fans could hardly be more different and versatile.

With our company name Micronel, we have always vouched for the smallest, longest-lasting, quietest and most dynamic fans. And so the story shall be continued in the spirit of the founder, by taking care of our quality products, but above all of our valued customers. Because we owe everything to them.
